Bird

In this tutorial, you will learn how to draw a bird using circles and the pen tool.

Step 1.Drag out a circle that is somewhat wider than it is tall. This circle will be the bird's head.

Step 2. Drag out a bigger circle that is also wider than it is tall. Rotate and position the circle as shown in the image to the right.

Step 3,  Select both circles and go up to the menu and click on Objects>Combine Objects>Boolean Union. Select the combined object and give it a Blurred Outline.

.

Step 4.  Now that we have the head and body, it is time to make the bird's legs and feet. Choose either the pen or line tool and make a line for the leg that looks like the one on the right.

Step 5.Now draw 3 shorter lines  that begin at the lowest point on the leg you just did in Step 4. Color each line a light orange color, select all 4 lines (3 for the feet + 1 for the leg = 4 lines) and create a package.  Copy that pacakage, paste it and position it as shown. We have now finished the bird's legs and feet.

Step 6A.  Use the pen tool to draw the bird's beak.  I have tried to make it ez to follow even if you avoid the pen tool and rarely use it. See the numbers 1-6 on the image to the right? Each number show the location and the sequence of clicks with the pen tool.  Start at the green #1 and end at the white #6.   Actually, the 1 and 6 are in the exact same place---I moved them a bit and changed the color so you could see both numbers.

Step 6B.  If you went in order the path should look like the beak to the right. Remember, the 1 and 6 are in the exact same place--when you make the 6th click, the path should close and fill with color. I selected a light orange color for the beak.

Step 7. Almost done, just a couple of more things...a bird need a wing,  you know? Drag out a circle that is shaped like the blue circle in the image to the right.  I made it blue so you could see it easily.

Step 8.  We are now going to color the bird. Click on a GenTex color in the QuickTools Colors and Textures Tab.  The one I selected is shown at the right.  Color the bird's wing and head/body with that color.

Step 9. The last thing to do is to draw a small black circle for the bird's eye....You are done! Oh,you could add a worm in the bird's beak with the pen tool. While you're add it, add a background, too.  Take a look at this version--doesn't it make you think of spring?
