In this tutorial, you will learn how to draw a pencil using circles, rectangles, rounded rectangles and the pen tool. You will also learn to use circles and linear gradients to help give an image a rounded look. |
Step 1 Set your project size to 128 width by 485 height. First, draw the body of the pencil. Drag out a rounded rectangle and use a linear gradient to color it. I selected yellow (255, 255, 0) for the light color and a slightly darker yellow (231,231,0) for the dark color. |

Step 2. To help give the pencil a rounded look, place 1 circle at the top and 1 at the bottom of the pencil body. I used an orange color in this image so you can see the circles, but make yours with the same color that you used for your pencil body. Color the top one with a linear gradient (again, using the same colors as the pencil body) and color the bottom on with the light color from the gradient (255, 255, 0 if you are using yellow), |

Step 3, Now it is time to draw the eraser portion of the pencil. First, drag out a narrow rectangle and place it at the top of the pencil. Make sure this new rectangle remains selected. In Styles, Click on the Library B tab, the select the first style. Then, in the Color window, remove the check mark in Screen and 3D and replace the texture with No Texture. This is the metal piece that holds the eraser in place. |
. |
Step 4. Drag out a rounded rectangle and place in on top and behind the metal piece you drew in Step 3. Give it a linear gradiant color (I used 255,51,153 & 240,112,168). |
Step 5 To give the eraser a rounded look, place a circle on top of it. I filled this circle with a purple gradient, but use the same colors you used in Step 4. |
Step 6. Use the pen tool to draw the pencil point. Use linear gradiant colors (213,162,162 & 185,137, 126) |
Step 7A. Copy and paste the triangle your made in the previous step. Color it black. |
Step 7B. Now drag out a rectangle (color doesn't matter) and place it on top of the top portion of the black triangle. Select the black triangle first, the hold down the shift key and select the rectangle. On the menu, click on Objects>Combinie Objects>Boolean Subtract--and you now have the led for your pencil. |
Step 8. Place the small black pencil point on top of the triangle you drew in Step 6 and you are done. A pencil made in RealDRAW! Oh,you could add some paper, & a background. While you're add it, add some text, too. Try it. Take a look at what I did with the pencil |
